Tuition and Mandatory Fees (2025)

As of late 2025, tuition remains the primary cost driver, with a stark contrast between public and private institutions:

  • Public Institutions: Average annual tuition for state residents is approximately $24,614, while out-of-state students pay an average of $40,386.

  • Private Institutions: Tuition is considerably higher, typically ranging from $31,000 to over $92,000 annually.

  • Total Program Costs: A full four-year Pharm.D. program can cost between $80,000 and $130,000 at public schools and $120,000 to $180,000 at private ones, with some elite programs exceeding $250,000.

Living and Indirect Expenses (2025)

Beyond tuition, students must budget for non-billed expenses that can add $15,000 to $25,000 per year:

  • Housing & Food: Typically ranges from $11,400 to $20,500 annually depending on the city’s cost of living.

  • Professional Fees: Pharmacy-specific costs include lab fees, technology requirements, and uniforms, totaling roughly $2,000 to $3,000 annually.

  • Licensing & Rotations: Final-year students often face extra travel and accommodation costs for off-site clinical rotations, alongside roughly $1,000 in exam fees for the NAPLEX and MPJE licensure exams.
