Entrance Interview

For Pharmacy Technician, this is a vital assessment tool used to determine if an applicant possesses the professional image, ethical reasoning, and communication skills necessary for a healthcare career.

Common Interview Formats

Most accredited programs utilize one of the following formats:

  • Individual/Panel Interviews: A 25–40 minute meeting with faculty, administrators, or current students to discuss compatibility with the program.

  • Virtual Submissions: Some selective institutions (i.e., Mayo Clinic) require applicants to record and submit a virtual interview through a specific link.

  • Interview Day: Comprehensive sessions may include a campus tour, program orientation, and a chance to meet with student services in addition to the formal interview.

Core Evaluation Areas

Interviewers evaluate five primary "pillars" of a candidate's potential:

  • Communication: Ability to listen actively and express technical or personal information clearly.

  • Professional Image: Assessing if the candidate presents an image (appearance and behavior) appropriate for the pharmacy profession.

  • Motivation & Passion: Understanding the "why" behind your career choice and your long-term professional goals.

  • Ethical Conduct: Assessing responses to scenarios involving honesty, patient privacy, and drug safety.

  • Soft Skills: Evaluating problem-solving, time management, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
