Clarification in Downstream Bioprocess Engineering refers to the removal of suspended solids (i.e. cells debris, or large particulates) from liquid streams to produce a clarified fluid suitable for further purification.

Chromatography is the cornerstone of Downstream Bioprocess Engineering, serving as the primary method for purifying valuable biological products produced by cells.

There are two main modes of chromatography: 1) flow-through chromatography, and 2) bind/elute chromatography.
